About
Jane Finlay BA(Hons)
Growing up listening to bands such as Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Pink Floyd, Santana, and many more - the guitar sparked my imagination from a young age. As the years passed, I discovered more contemporary bands that also influence me today, including the likes of Ghost and Halestorm. It was only a matter of time before just listening to the guitar was not enough; I had to learn to play the music I loved so much.

I attended lessons of my own and with the support of my teacher, I became more proficient at music theory and also enhanced my technical, aural and theoretical skills. This boosted my appreciation and understanding of the instrument so much that it motivated me to begin studying music at college. My lessons complimented my musical studies, and after completing entry level courses, I finally graduated from London's Kingston University with a First-Class BA (Hons) Degree in music composition in 2020. In addition, I acquired my Grade 8 Trinity Rock and Pop Guitar Exam qualification as well as completing a guitar teaching placement at a local high school. During this time, I also developed this teaching experience at home, which has since evolved into my full-time focus.

In my spare time, I enjoy drawing, painting and playing gigs with my band, The Fever Dream Monarchs. In 2022, I had the honour of playing with Michael McGeary, one of Edinburgh's best musicians at one of the city's most prestigious venues, Usher Hall. When I don't have a paintbrush or a plectrum in-hand, you will find me walking my pooch, Kai; spending time with family and friends; and enjoying video games and cinema.

Really enjoying my lessons with Jane. She's super friendly and I've already learned more in five sessions than I've done on my own over many years. Lessons are fun and she has really inspired me to learn, practice and improve (and buy a new guitar!) Highly recommend.

Jane is a very sympathetic and caring teacher. She takes time at the start to work out exactly what you are looking for and then gears the lessons to suit your needs and goes at a pace that works for you.
Kareem
Jane is a very conscientious and talented person. My son has recently started to take guitar lessons with Jane and he can already play some amazing tunes. Jane makes you feel at ease and she is very patient.
